A Belated Ninth Blogiversary Post

Early last week, my blog turned 9. That’s kind of a crazy thought.

9 years ago, I started writing here in Legion’s heyday because I was passionately excited about World of Warcraft, and over time that passion and excitement has grown and expanded to discussions of other games, game design, technology, and sometimes other stuff (hello wrestling posts!). While I haven’t written as much as I would always like, I’m proud of the site, happy for the frequent and thoughtful commenters, and vaguely terrified that this post will mark one-thousand and ten posts in those 9 years (plus one week).

In many ways, this week is an interesting reflection point for me when it comes to this blog, writing, and video games as a whole. This week sees Midnight, World of Warcraft’s 11th expansion, enter early access. This also, rudely and coincidentally, is the week I finish my current degree in game development and programming, an application of my interest in video game production and design that grew out of writing here, even if trying to enter the games industry at this point is a scary prospect.

Blogging is an interesting thing in 2026 because it still feels like not a lot of people really participate in it as a medium, and yet I see a lot of people who still come by and comment, write their own stuff, and engage with it. I remain grateful that I have an audience who doesn’t just read but engages, for the thoughts and ideas they put out both in response to my posts and on their own blogs, and to those who stop by even without saying anything.

It will be an exciting few months as we enter a new WoW expansion while Final Fantasy XIV’s next Fan Fest cycle is set to start in April and reveal that game’s next expansion and future, and I am excited to sit down and try to write more posts to discuss all of these things to come!
